the actual repair process required to

below should
not be used solely on it's
own. Therefore it would be best to use the Xbox
360 red ring of death repair guide responsible
for bringing this repair to the forefront. That
guide can be viewed
at,
The Xbox 360 Red
Light Fix Pro Gamer

High Definition video and a very instructive repair
manual, you will have all the resources required to
walk you
step-by-step of the
repair process. |
Tools:
There are several
tools needed to make the following repair. Many
of these items are common household items, others
may need to be purchased at a hardware store. You can get
a list of all the necessary items at my,
Xbox 360 repair
parts section.
1. Remove the Hard
Drive
First you will want to
remove the hard-drive. This is as simple as pressing the
hard-drive release button and simply pulling it off the
console.

2. Remove
the Face-Plate
The
face plate is the next thing to come off. To do
this, put your fingers into the USB port on the left
side of the Xbox 360. Grab the casing and just pull up
and the face plate will remove itself. Always be
delicate when handling the plastic parts of the
system..

3. Remove
Side-Panels
The grey
side panels are next, and you should first start with the
site opposite to the hard-drive side. You will need to
use a paper clip to get these guys off, and what you have
to do is unhook the 6 tabs that are holding the
ventilation shield in place. Just unhook and lift up to
remove the first ventilation shield.

The opposite side of the
360

Simply
lift the side panel while individually unlocking
each tab with your paper clip.
Now for
the hard-drive side. For the
hard-drive side there are two tabs that are hidden. Look
at the picture for an illustration of where the first two
are.

The hidden two are located where the
hard-drive sat. In two little ports you will see them. Just
stick the paper clip in here and unhook these tabs and pull
up on the ventilation shield to remove it.

4. Remove Lower
Casing
Once the
side panels are gone, the lower portion of the 360 has to
come off. To do this, there are tabs that will need to be
unhooked as shown in the illustration. Simply use your
finger nail for the tabs located in the front, and your
knife or pointy object for the 7 tabs in the back. Start
with the backside first, and then do the
front.
Here are
their locations:

For the
front tabs just use
your finger nail to get
them un-done.

When you've undone the tabs
flip the 360 top-side (bottom side up) so the
lower half can be removed.
5. Remove Outer
Screws
When you've removed the
lower portion this what you will see:

The highlighted red and
green circles are the specific screws that will need to be
removed. To remove these screws use your Torx T-10.
To make the re-assembly process easier, be sure to keep all
screws together.
I highly
recommend that you get the entire repair course filmed
in High Definition video to make this easier for
you:

6. Eject Button
Removal
Now we are going to
be removing the eject button. If you don't remove this before
removing the top portion of the Xbox 360, this button will
snap. That is why we are taking care of it now. To remove
it just grab it and pull it up.

7. Remove The Top
Casing
Now that
the eject button has been removed and the screws removed,
go ahead and take off the top of the Xbox
360.

8. Remove DVD/CD
Drive
Now the DVD drive will need to be removed. Just lift it up, and
unhook it from the back. Piece of
cake.

9. Fan Shroud & Fan
Removal
Now we need to take out the Fan
Shroud. Simply unhook it from it's release
tab.

Now the actual fans can be
removed. Simply disconnect the fans and pull them out from
their placement.
To make sure
your repair goes smooth like I highly recommend that you get

Guide
10. Remove 8 X
Screws
Next we will need to remove the 8
screws holding the motherboard in place. Go ahead and use your
T-8 to do this. Remember to keep your screws
together.

11. Remove Light
Cover
Now
the light cover needs to come off. Simply pull up on the top of
it and it will come off easily. Be
gentle.

12. Remove RF
Module
Now we
can remove the RF Module. To do this, use your T-8
to remove the 3 screws holding this in place. After
that just pull on the board to release
it. will come right off.

13. Remove
Mother-Board
Once
all of this has been done. We can finally remove the
motherboard. Simply grab the heat sinks and lift up on the
motherboard. Make sure to handle this step with caution. If
the motherboard doesn't come out then you have not removed
everything properly. Go back to the following steps and make
sure you've done everything. If everything done and it's
still not coming out, make sure the motherboard isn't caught
on
something.
14. Remove X-Clamps
and Heat Sinks
Now we need
to remove the infamous X-Clamps. Simply use your flat head
screw driver to pry off each tip of the X-Clamp to remove it
properly. Make sure to take your time when doing
this.

Once both
X-Clamps are removed, take the heats sinks off of the
motherboard.

15.
Apply Thermal
Compound
Now you are
ready for the modification process. What you will need to do
is remove the original thermal compound paste on the GPU and
CPU with our new paste from the Xbox 360 parts section.
Since this is a delicate process and requires precise
instructions, make sure to use the
The Xbox 360 Pro Gamer Edition for precise details on
how to do this.
16. Re-Adjust Heat
Sinks
Now that the thermal paste is on securely, we only have one
more mod to do and were done! Told you it was easy! What you
will have to do is use our screws and washers from the repair
parts list to re-apply them to the Heat Sinks so they will
be more properly situation and secure. Since this mod also
requires precice instructions be sure to use the guide listed
above to do this step properly. We can't have any room for
mistakes, especially since we've gotten this
far.
17. Re-Assemble
Console
After everything has been done,
all mods properly applied you will effectively be finished with
your xbox 360 red ring of death repair. The only thing left to
do at this stage is to begin re-assembling your console. If
however you'd like to repair and prevent several other errors
from your console such as,
1 & 2 Red Light
Errors,
Graphic
Glitches,
Game
Freezes,
and the E74 Error
Code
Then there is one more small
modification to be made. In order to do this mod
be sure to use the guide illustrated above. It will show
you everything you need to do in the proper detail and
instructions that this general overview cannot
provide. After that mod is made the repair guide will walk
you through the entire re-assembly process to ensure that you
get back to your game
asap.
Now this is the same process and
repair that has already helped thousands of people. It's helped
many people that I know personally, people that I've
